SCoR commissions automatic block signaling on 22 km stretch in Vijayawada division

Officials of South Coast Railway in jubilant mood after successfully commissioning automatic block signaling system between Talamanchi and Sri Venkateswarapal in Vijayawada division on Wednesday.

Vijayawada Division of South Coast Railway (SCoR) has commissioned Automatic Block Signaling (ABS) on the three-track section between Talamanchi, Alluru Road, Bitragunta and Sri Venkateswarapal.

The project covers 22.13 km of track and 66.39 km of track and represents the next step in the modernization of the railway security infrastructure.

With the commissioning of the system, the total ABS network between Gudur and Sri Venkateswarapal has increased to 76.53 km route, enhancing the capacity and operational efficiency of one of the busiest rail corridors in the SCoR zone, railway officials said in a release on Wednesday.

ABS enables closer but safe train operation by continuously detecting track occupancy and automatically controlling signals. The system is expected to improve safety, facilitate smoother train movement, reduce operational delays and increase track capacity.

The newly commissioned system includes Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter (MSDAC) based train detection, advanced electronic signaling arrangements, upgraded communication and monitoring equipment and enhanced safety measures at identified level crossings.

The upgraded signaling infrastructure will also provide greater flexibility in handling passenger and freight services while improving the reliability of train operations, officials said.

The commissioning was carried out under the leadership of SCoR Director General Sandeep Mathur, OV Principal Chief Signaling and Telecommunication Engineer Suresh Kumar, Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya, Chief Signaling and Telecommunication Engineer (Projects) Narendra Singh and Deputy Chief Signaling and Telecommunication Engineer, M. Veeriah, their Staff Engineer, M. Vijayawa
