Ramchander Rao accuses Congress and BRS parties of ignoring people’s problems

People are “disgusted” with the political drama unfolding in the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council for the past two days, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao claimed on Wednesday, accusing the Congress and BRS of ignoring pressing public issues.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP’s state office in Hyderabad, Mr. Rao said that while people expect meaningful discussions on issues affecting their lives, both sides have been engaged in personal recriminations and political buffoonery. Condemning what he called “theatrical political antics” by the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS, he said the legislature should instead focus on matters of public importance.

Mr. Rao highlighted several issues which he felt deserved urgent attention in the House, such as outstanding fee payment charges affecting thousands of students from economically weaker sections, confusion over land under Section 22A of the Registration Act, delay in payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to government employees, implementation of Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations and overall economic problems.

“The Congress government is betraying the public trust, just like the BRS administration and the failure of both the governments are responsible for the serious problems people are facing today,” he claimed. “Instead of addressing them, they divert attention in the assembly to cover up their failures and shortcomings,” he added.

Later in the day, Mr. Rao wrote to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Italian, drawing attention to what he described as the deepening education crisis in Telangana. He sought Mr. Gandhi’s intervention to ensure immediate settlement of the pending fee payment, which he claimed was affecting nearly 40 lakh students, and to deal with the deteriorating condition of the education sector.

Separately, BJP Rajya Sabha member K. Laxman, speaking in New Delhi, expressed concern over the conduct of the assembly proceedings. He alleged that the lawmakers had reduced the dignity of the House by using abusive language and personal attacks instead of discussing public matters.

Mr. Laxman also alleged that the Revanth Reddy government had shifted its focus from public welfare. He claimed that the people of Telangana were looking for a political change and expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as a strong alternative in the state in the coming years.
