Kargil war veteran, ex-Captain Gurrapu Jagadishwer on Wednesday met Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and sought his support for promoting the suicide prevention message ‘Every Save One’ across the state and the country.
Mr. Rao emphasized the need to make suicide prevention helpline numbers more visible to the public, especially the Telangana helpline 104 and the national helpline Tele-MANAS (14416). He suggested displaying the numbers at airports, railway stations, bus stands, metro pillars and other public places and besides promoting them through television, radio, Doordarshan, digital displays and cinema.
He also asked the Governor to watch his award-winning film September-10, based on suicide prevention, and dedicate it to Telangana and the nation for wider distribution.
Former chairman of the Indian Psychiatric Society’s Suicide Prevention Specialist Section, Naresh Vadlamani, suggested that the film be considered for wider release in the Telugu states and dubbed into Hindi and other regional languages.
Mr Rao also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider promoting this message through his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on 27 September.
