Telangana HC reserves order to modify action order against erring assembly policemen

Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday (September 8, 2026) reserved the orders in an interim application seeking modification of an order directing the police chief to take action against “errant police officials” who prevented Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators from entering the Assembly the previous day.

The judge said the order would be issued in a day or two. Appearing for the government, Advocate General A. Sudershan Reddy objected to the modification of the order, saying that the police were not at fault and were acting on the instructions of the Chief Marshal of the Assembly. The Advocate General read out the provisions of Article 316 of the Assembly that, in case of necessity, the chief marshal of the Assembly can use the help of the police to ensure the smooth running of the Assembly.

The advocate general argued that the photographs submitted by the BRS party, which had filed a plea that the police prevented its legislators from entering the Assembly, represented only one side of the picture. Senior advocate Gandra Mohan Rao, appearing for the petitioners, argued that there was no need to modify the order as only “errant police officers” should act, according to the judge. If none of the officers were found guilty, naturally no action would be taken against anyone, he said.
