State Govt. to implement ‘Gramanubhava’ to introduce rural life to urban students

The state government has ordered the implementation of the ‘Gramanubhava’ program to give students of schools and colleges in urban areas first-hand exposure to rural life, including agriculture, fishing, animal husbandry, art and culture.

The program was implemented for students of classes 8, 9 and 11 studying in government, aided and unaided schools in urban areas under the jurisdiction of all district directorates. The scheme will initially cover about 2,15,577 students. However, 10th and 12th class students were exempted due to board exams.

As mentioned in the regulation, students of 160 government institutions, 732 unaided schools with enrollment above 800 and 39 aided schools with enrollment of 800 and above will be covered.

The government is implementing the program led by Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK) and the School Education Department (PU) at an estimated cost of ₹2.46 crore.

The length of stay in the village will be one night and two days. During the stay, students gain direct practical contact with vital aspects of the countryside, including agriculture and farming, technology, horticulture, floristry, rural culture and tradition. The visit must be arranged for the period from September to December of the current year.

The Ministry of Agriculture will act as a technical partner of the Department of Education during the implementation of the program. Five teachers will accompany the group of students.
