Prajwal Revanna, a fellow jailer sent to two-day police custody for using a phone in jail

A city court on Tuesday sent former MP Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence in a rape case, and his co-prisoner Prathap Rai to two-day police custody in connection with the alleged use of a mobile phone at the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.

The duo was produced before the court of the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) after the Parappana Agrahara police obtained an arrest warrant for further investigation. The police requested their custody to find out how the banned phone got to Revanna and how it was used in the prison.

The case came to light after the Central Crime Branch (CCB) allegedly recovered a smartphone from Revanna during a raid at Parappana Agrahara jail on August 11. The device reportedly had Facebook, WhatsApp and other apps installed and was subsequently sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.

According to the investigation, the phone was allegedly used to communicate with Revanna’s family members and lawyers. The police also reportedly found that the SIM card was obtained from Andhra Pradesh. In the FIR, Prathap Rai has been named accused no.1 while Revanna is accused no.2.
