CPI(M) state secretary P Shanmugam on Tuesday (September 8, 2026) said his party would not attend the second post-election allies meeting called by the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on September 9.
Speaking to The Hindu, he said that his party’s external support to the ruling party in the Assembly would continue. Mr Shanmugam said there was a proposal to form a joint minimum program of the TVK and its allies and the CPI(M) would share his views.
CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian said in a statement that his party would not attend the meeting but would continue to offer external support to TVK.
Last week, Ministers N. Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, CTR Nirmal Kumar and Rajmohan visited CPI and CPI(M) offices and invited them to attend a meeting of pro-TVK parties.
