On 25 September 2026, the Madras High Court summoned Tindivanam Sub Collector AK Akash to explain why he did not comply with the court’s order to place the village administrative officer on a non-sensitive post after revoking his suspension order.

Judge PT Asha ordered the Sub Collector to be present in court on the contempt of court case filed against him. Convinced of the allegations leveled against the officer, the judge wrote: “This is nothing but a clear contempt for the orders of this court.

On 29 April 2026, the judge granted V. Karunakaran’s plea, which was stayed pending criminal proceedings against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The judge ordered that his sentence be quashed and that he be placed in a non-sensitive location.

Although the Sub Collector quashed the order of suspension in accordance with the order of the Court, he rejected the petitioner’s request to accommodate him on a non-sensitive post and hence this contempt plea.
