YouTuber moves Kerala HC to file suit against Sunny Kapikad for ‘defamatory’ remarks on Ayyappa

YouTuber Rahul Easwar is seeking directions from the Kerala High Court to remove videos allegedly containing derogatory remarks about Ayyappa from social media.

YouTuber Rahul Easwar approached the Kerala High Court seeking directions to remove videos allegedly containing derogatory remarks about Ayyappa and Malikapurathamma allegedly made by social activist and writer Sunny M. Kapikad from social media.

Mr. Easwar sought directions to the Kerala government, the police and the Met to remove the videos, all corresponding URL links and digital copies. He also requested to register a criminal case against Mr. Kapikad. He also sought a direction for Meta and other social media platforms to either temporarily block, remove or prevent public access to the video in question.

Mr. Easwar argued that with his remarks, which allegedly denigrated the deities, Mr. Kapikad had committed the offenses of attempting to promote disharmony among religious groups, making statements prejudicial to national integration and intentionally inflaming religious sentiments under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023 and the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Justice G. Girish directed the state and police authorities to respond to Mr. Easwar’s application by September 10, 2026. The court also issued notices to Mr. Kapikad and Meta.
