NCPCR summons Meta India executives on September 9 for allegedly advertising material that exploits children

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has launched an investigation into allegations of child sexual exploitation and abuse material (CSEAM) advertisements on Meta platforms and has summoned the company’s Indian management for questioning.

The Children’s Rights Authority took suo motu cognizance of the BBC Eye media report and issued a notice to Meta Platforms, Inc. on 3 July 2026 seeking an explanation from the social media company regarding the allegations.

Meta sent NCPCR response

Meta sent its reply to the NCPCR a week after receiving the notification. After examining the company’s response, the Children’s Rights Commission has now decided to launch a formal investigation to establish the facts of the matter.

Meta India executives summoned

As part of the investigation, the NCPCR has summoned the managing director and director of Meta India to appear before the commission on September 9, 2026.

The subpoena is the next step in the commission’s investigation into the allegations and is aimed at establishing the facts and understanding Meta’s position on the matter.

The NCPCR’s decision to launch an investigation comes after it asked the Met for an explanation following a BBC report. The commission is expected to examine the allegations and the company’s response as part of the proceedings.
