Veerashaiva Mahasabha leaders demand a police investigation

Leaders of the Veerashaiva Mahasabha in Dharwad said a young member of the community died due to police harassment and sought action against them.

They also demanded compensation for the family of Aditya Myageri who died due to police harassment.

The decision was taken during a meeting of Veerashaiva Lingayat leaders at Lingayat Bhavan in Dharwad on Sunday.

They condemned the Congress government for merely suspending three police officers and one inspector in connection with the death of Aditya Myageri, a student who ended his life due to police harassment.

Earlier, a memorandum was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner demanding that an FIR be registered against the accused officials and a former High Court judge investigate the case, they said.

However, no action has been taken till date, they said. They have vowed to approach the courts if the state government does not act on their demands.

In order to protect the interests of the people who are facing injustice in the society, it was decided to form the Veerashaiva Lingayat Protection Committee.

General Secretary Shivasharan Kalabashettar, Madivallappa Siriyannavar, Veeresh Kelageri, Manjunath Mooganavar, Vijayalakshmi Kalyanshettar, Shrishailgouda Kamtar, SL Biradar, family members of Aditya Myageri and others were present.
