Ruling party exposed drama of BRS MLC’s statements against Speaker to divert people’s attention: KTR

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy exposed the drama of BRS MLC’s comments against the speaker as part of his plan to divert people’s attention from his government’s excesses on opposition legislators.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he said the BRS legislators went to the assembly wearing black T-shirts with slogans on the broken promises of the Congress government. “We have not used any unparliamentary or objectionable language on the T-shirts. When Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi wore black T-shirts in the Parliament premises, why can’t we,” he asked.

He further said that the police acted illegally and attacked the BRS legislators leaving several members bruised and some injured. He accused the police of pulling the legislator’s hair. He demanded that the Chief Minister in his capacity as Home Minister should take responsibility for the conduct of the police towards P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy.

“When we informed our party chief about the incidents, he instructed us to apologize with a big heart and therefore MLC Tata Madhu clarified that he did not say anything against the speaker and if the speaker felt that they were against him, he retracts it and expresses an apology,” said Mr. Rama Rao. He said the BRS also boycotted the Business Advisory Council (BAC) meeting and protested against the insulting of BRS women legislators.

Mr. Rama Rao alleged that the Speaker was biased against the BRS as he had openly said in the House that he would not give the microphone if members criticized the Chief Minister. He said he would move a motion of no confidence in the chairman if necessary.

Women legislators withdrew the attack

Meanwhile, BRS deputy leader in the assembly and former minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy termed Monday’s incidents at the assembly entrance as “heinous” and alleged that the police showed enthusiasm and insulted opposition legislators only on the orders of chief minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Former minister V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy said it was a black day for democracy as the police insulted opposition women legislators. Another lawmaker, Kova Laxmi, said there was no protection even for women legislators in the Congress rule.
