Elderly woman allegedly robbed of gold worth ₹11.6 lakh in Muvattupuzha

The Muvattupuzha police have launched an investigation after an elderly woman was allegedly robbed of gold ornaments worth around ₹ 11.6 lakh on Sunday (May 24, 2026). Valuables were stolen from Mariyamma Paila (86), a bedridden patient.

According to a first information report, the unidentified accused allegedly entered Ms. Mariyamma’s bedroom and forcibly locked her maid in the bathroom before stealing the ornaments the victim was wearing. The ornaments stolen include four bracelets, a necklace and a locket. The incident took place at around 8.20 am when Ms Mariyamma’s relatives who live in the neighborhood were going to church. A case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Ms. Mariyamma’s brother.

A case was registered on charges including illegal detention, house entry and robbery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
