BJP MP Dinesh Sharma appointed Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Saturday (September 5, 2026), Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

Mr. Sharma will replace Admiral DK Joshi (retd) who took over as Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on October 8, 2017.

“The President of India is pleased to appoint Dr. Dinesh Sharma as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement issued late on Saturday (September 5).

Mr Sharma, 62, previously served as Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. His Rajya Sabha term was scheduled to end on November 25. He is also the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
