Heavy rain lashed parts of North Karnataka, house collapsed in Uppinbetageri

The twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad received heavy showers overnight. It also rained heavily in some taluk towns. There were no casualties. But losses to crops and public infrastructure have yet to be assessed, officials said.
Heavy rain lashed the twin cities for more than three hours. Heavy lightning and thunder accompanied the rain. After the rain, the temperature dropped sharply.
After the downpour, rainwater flowed into houses in Jannath Nagar and surrounding areas, giving people sleepless nights. Some roads were also flooded. And rainwater stagnated on vacant lots in several areas.
Police said a house in Uppinbetageri collapsed due to rain. However, no one was injured as the inmates moved to a safer location.
Some areas in Vijayapura district also received heavy rain. The city witnessed showers on Saturday. Some nearby talukas saw heavy rain on Sunday. Roads in some areas of the old city were flooded.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 17 districts in the state, including some in North Karnataka, for the next 24 hours.
