MLC signals non-disbursement of nutrition kits in Karnataka

Congress MLC K Shivakumar pointed out the non-payment of nutrition packages to tribal families in Karnataka for the past five to six months and said around 50,000 tribal families in 11 districts are dependent on welfare and nutritional support provided by the government. In a letter to the Chief Secretary, he pointed out that nutrition packages are an important part of social measures aimed at promoting the health and nutritional needs of vulnerable communities, especially women, children and the elderly.

“However, the non-payment of nutrition packages for the past five to six months has caused significant hardship to beneficiaries. This is especially true as many families live in remote forest and hilly areas where access to regular sources of nutritious food, health care and other basic services is already limited. The prevailing drought has further worsened their livelihoods as they can no longer depend on smaller forest produce,” he said.
