Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning lashed Yadgir district between 12:30 am and 2:00 am on Sunday, causing extensive damage, especially to the electricity supply system.

As many as five cattle were killed after being struck by lightning. The gusty wind blew away the tin roof of 13 houses and four houses were partially damaged in the entire district, city administration sources confirmed.

According to initial reports, 150 power poles and 50 transformers were damaged, power cables snapped in many places across the district due to rain and strong winds.

However, Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) officials are yet to confirm the exact damage.

Electricity supplies in both urban and rural areas were disrupted for hours. Restoration work in rural areas is almost complete and most of the affected parts are being supplied with power. However, many rural areas are still without power as staff and officers are in the field to restore everything.

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandve directed police officers to survey the damage caused by the rain and gusty winds and submit a report immediately.

He also directed other concerned departments to be ready to face any emerging situation and implement rescue operations effectively.
