At least 19 injured after South Carolina beach stampede, investigation underway | Today’s news
At least 19 people were reportedly injured after a stampede broke out on a beach in South Carolina early Sunday morning, the New York Post reported, citing officials.
Horry County Fire Rescue officials said shortly after 1 a.m. a stampede occurred near a stage in Atlantic Beach, South Carolina, about 13 miles north of Myrtle Beach.
All nineteen were evacuated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while three others were taken to local hospitals. In addition, officials did not rule out the possibility of other victims who were not checked by rescuers.
The cause of the stampede has not yet been revealed, the report said.
Atlantic Beach is currently hosting the annual Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival, which features live music, meet-and-greet events, parties and other entertainment from Friday through Monday. It was not immediately clear whether the victims of the stampede were connected to the bike fest.
This is a developing story. Further details were awaited.
