Will stage dharna outside BJP leaders’ houses in Delhi if attacks on TMC continue: Former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday (September 3, 2026) condemned the alleged vandalism at the Camac Street Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in Kolkata and warned that her party would stage demonstrations outside the residences of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in New Delhi if the “atrocities continue”.

Addressing the issue on Facebook Live, Ms Banerjee accused BJP-backed men of looting documents and equipment and said the alleged attack on the TMC office reflected the worsening law and order situation in the state.

“We condemn the vandalism of our party office early in the morning in Kolkata. If this is the law and order situation in Kolkata, imagine what is prevailing in the rural areas,” the former chief minister said.

Ms. Banerjee alleged that BJP workers vandalized the TMC office after taking the Kolkata Police “into confidence” and taking away important documents and equipment from the premises. “BJP goons stole our documents and equipment and vandalized our office by taking Kolkata Police into confidence,” she alleged.

The former three-term chief minister also accused the BJP of indulging in “total lawlessness” in West Bengal and condemned what she described as hooliganism at Jadavpur University.

“What happened at Jadavpur University was hooliganism by the BJP. We condemn it,” Ms. Banerjee said. Supremo TMC claimed that a situation was being created where it was being prevented from moving freely.

“The chief minister says he will not allow me to step out of the house,” she said, referring to the alleged threats and intimidation. Ms. Banerjee warned that the TMC would not remain silent if attacks on its leaders and offices continued.

“If these atrocities on the TMC do not stop, we will stage dharnas outside the houses of BJP leaders in New Delhi,” the former West Bengal chief minister said.

Her remarks came hours after TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee alleged that BJP-backed gunmen vandalized the party’s Camac Street office in Kolkata on Thursday (September 3, 2026).

Ms. Banerjee shared alleged CCTV footage on social media in which several men wearing masks and helmets were seen leaving the premises carrying electronic equipment, including televisions and a printer.

“The footage also showed a room inside the office with damaged furniture and electronic equipment. The police subsequently arrested six people in connection with the incident,” said the officer.

The allegations have triggered a fresh political confrontation between the ruling TMC and the BJP in the state, with both sides exchanging accusations of law and order and political violence.
