The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated enforcement action against infant food companies to ensure safety and compliance.

According to FSSAI, Bengaluru-based British Life Sciences Private Limited was found to be violating certain food safety norms in its infant formula products. Officials have taken legal action against the company for not following safety standards.

The FSSAI said: “During an inspection conducted at British Life Sciences Private Limited, Bengaluru, a significant quantity of misbranded infant formula products were identified and seized in accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Considering the serious nature of the violation and the potential risk that substandard infant formula products pose to infants and young children, appropriate legal proceedings have been initiated.”

Officials have ordered the destruction of approximately 3.7 metric tons of expired infant formula products as directed by the court. Expired stock has been safely disposed of to prevent reuse, misuse or re-introduction into the food chain.

British Life Sciences is part of British Biologicals and specializes in maternal and child nutrition. The company claims to be one of the largest manufacturers of medical nutrition products in the world, providing pediatric, diabetic, geriatric, cardiovascular and hepatitis solutions.
