Mumbai’s rising rental prices again caused a heated debate, thanks to the roommate advertising that was virus on social media. The young technical professional, Ohshin Bhatia, recently sent an X who was looking for a roommate to share his two-room apartment in a parel-head residential and commercial center in the city. But what really attracted everyone’s attention was rent: Rs. 52 000 per month for unfurnished main bedroom.
Oshin’s total rent for 2bhk apartment is Rs. 1 lakh. The post contained pictures of the apartment along with the headline that reads: “Hello boys, I’m looking for a female roommate (for connecting to me in 2bhk) in the parel. It is an unfurnished main bedroom and the rent is 52K, comes with a gym, running track and good equipment.
While view and equipment may be for some draws, many on social media could not get around a steep price for one room – especially one that is not even furnished. The post quickly became a viral, while users flooded the section of comments by distrust, sarcasm and wider criticism of the unsustainable real estate market in Mumbai.
One user wrote: “Mumbai’s property costs are actually crazy. You can get a house for 15–20k to a house in Ghaziabad.” Another joking: “The chauffeur, Butler and Masseur include 24/7 available?” The third commentator added: “52K for this concrete box. The real estate market in India is literally fraud.”
Online reactions not only emphasized the gap between salaries and expectations in meters, such as Mumbai, but also hit a chord with countless young professionals who tried to find available residential areas.
Since the landlords often prefer the real space.
The increase in rental costs, especially in well -linked neighborhoods, such as a parl, is reportedly driven by high demand, limited space and a growing number of individual professionals migrating to the bomb for work.
