Traffic police study bus diversions, turn closures to ease traffic jams in JNTU-HITEC

The Cyberabad traffic police is reviewing a number of measures, including diversion of RTC buses, closure of select junctions and pedestrian underpass, to address the persistent traffic congestion along the JNTU Junction-HITEC City corridor and surrounding stretches.

A coordination meeting chaired by Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunpreet Singh on Wednesday reviewed the traffic situation between JNTU Junction and HITEC City, including Wipro Junction and its surrounding areas, as well as the stretch from Botanical Garden towards AMB Mall.

Additional DCP (Traffic-I), ACP (Madhapur Traffic) and Traffic Adviser Prashanth attended the meeting during which the officials studied the existing traffic flow, bottlenecks and conflict points and discussed possible traffic management and technical measures.

Feasibility of diversion of RTC bus service operated between JNTU Junction and HITEC City was discussed to reduce the volume of traffic on the congested section. Officials also explored the possibility of closing selected U-turns to reduce cross movements and improve vehicular movement.

The number and location of openings and access points on both sides of the main carriageway was also reviewed, particularly their effect on merging and merging traffic.

A proposal for a pedestrian underpass at JNTU intersection was discussed to facilitate safer movement of pedestrians and reduce conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles at the busy intersection.

At Wipro Junction and nearby stretches, officials studied drone footage to understand traffic movement, accumulation points, merging areas and bottlenecks. Based on the observations, possible measures to improve traffic circulation and reduce congestion were discussed.

The Botanic Garden-AMB Mall corridor, including the Kothaguda flyover and its approaches, was also reviewed. Officials discussed measures to regulate traffic flow and deal with bottlenecks along the stretch.

The meeting concluded with plans for further field studies and analysis of traffic flow before deciding on the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed measures. The interventions are aimed at ensuring smoother and safer movement of vehicles and pedestrians around the JNTU-HITEC city and adjacent corridors.
