Revanth calls for a concerted effort to make Rahul Gandhi PM fulfill YSR’s last wish
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has said that making Congress leader Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister of India is an urgent necessity, describing his leadership as a “historic imperative” for the country at a challenging time. He also recalled what he described as the last wish of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy “to see Mr. Rahul Gandhi become the Prime Minister”.
He also said that his government will continue the ideals of YSR and complete the irrigation projects started during his tenure.
Within the program Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy Awards 2026 organized by Dr. YSR and Dr. At the KVP Foundation in New Delhi on Wednesday, Mr Reddy said, “Making Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister would be a fitting tribute to YSR. To fulfill his last wish, we must together ensure that Rahul Gandhi becomes the Prime Minister in the coming elections.”
The CM urged Congress leaders and workers to work together under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge to realize the goal of making Mr. Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister.
Referring to Pranahita-Chevella, Kalvakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme and Srisailam Left Bank Canal projects initiated by YSR, he said all these projects will be completed and dedicated to the people of Telangana.
Remembering former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, he said that Nehru gave priority to education and irrigation. “The country subsequently moved from a food-deficit to a food-exporting country,” he said.
Mr. Revanth Reddy thanked former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for introducing support prices for farmers and measures to distribute allotted land to the poor.
Referring to YSR’s tenure as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Revanth Reddy said he provided free electricity to farmers, waived ₹1,300 crore electricity dues and withdrew cases against farmers. These arrangements have ensured YSR a place in the hearts of the farming community, he said.
The Chief Minister said that the Pranahita-Chevella and SLBC projects were subsequently stopped. “We will follow his ideals and complete these projects,” he said, adding that they would be dedicated to the people of Telangana.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that YSR and Agricultural Scientist MS Swaminathan have contributed significantly to improve the lives of farmers. While Dr. Swaminathan brought the benefits of science and technology to agriculture, YSR gave farmers confidence that the government would stand by them, he said.
Foundation Dr. YSR and Dr. KVP Foundation awarded MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy Award-2026 with a cash prize of ₹25,000 for her contribution to agriculture, food security, sustainable development and rural livelihoods.
Recalling his association with YSR, Mr. Vikramarka said he served as chief whip during his tenure. He also highlighted the long-standing friendship between YSR and KVP Ramachandra Rao and said that the foundation established by Mr. KVP Ramchandra Rao is helping to preserve the ideals and legacy of YSR.
