The Hubballi police on Monday (August 31) arrested six persons in connection with the broad daylight murder of a man in Hubballi and sent the accused to judicial custody on Tuesday (September 1).

The accused, identified as Virendra Talakal, Deepak Chalavadi, Shakuntala Talakal, Rakshit Bandiwaddar, Taufeeq Horakeri and Farooq Naragund. The deceased is Dadapeer Udaykar, 35 years old.

According to the police, it was an act of revenge. Dadapeer was accused of murdering Maruti Talakal in Hubballi in 2015 and also became a suspect in the death of Raju Chalavadi in an accident in rural Dharwad in 2023. However, Dadapeer was acquitted by the court and transferred to Bogenagarakoppa in Kalaghatagi where he started farming in the taluk. However, the family members of the two deceased men were allegedly waiting for revenge and after tracking his movements for months, carried out the murder in broad daylight on August 28, police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the prime accused, Virendra Talakal, wanted to avenge his brother’s murder. Soon after he committed the murder, he informed his mother, who allegedly gave him money and advised him to run away. The accused subsequently shaved their heads to conceal their identities.

The police also arrested persons who provided weapons and provided vehicles for the accused.
