CPI targets Modi govt in Delhi rally, calls for ‘change’

The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Tuesday (September 1, 2026) accused the Center of pursuing pro-corporate politics and sought to intensify its political agitation against the Narendra Modi government.

The party held a public meeting at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to conclude its nationwide padyatras, organized from August 6 to 15 against the government, under the slogan “Badlaav zaroori hai” (change is necessary).

Addressing the rally, CPI general secretary D. Raja accused the BJP-led government at the Center of running a “fascist regime”. “Poor people across the country are being deprived of their basic rights. The government is corporatizing public sector enterprises. The education system has been destroyed,” Raja said.

He said government policies, including the dilution of the rural employment guarantee program and the commercialization of education and health care, were aimed at benefiting a few “crony capitalists” while ordinary citizens faced increasing economic and social pressures.

Mr Raja said India was experiencing an “alarming deterioration” in its social, political and economic conditions. “People need jobs, SMEs, social security, dignity, justice and democracy, not propaganda, hatred and division,” he said.

Drawing a parallel with India’s freedom struggle against British rule, Mr Raja said the country must come together to “defeat the RSS-BJP Raj of division, inequality and authoritarianism”.

CPI National Secretary Amarjeet Kaur said the BJP and RSS have always singled out Left parties as their primary political opponents.

“Should we forget the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a BJP top leadership meeting three years ago called communists dangerous and said communists must be ended? Today we have come to tell you that we will end you,” she said.
