The revision of car tariffs is under review

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday (September 1) said the government would soon take a decision on autorickshaw drivers’ long-standing demand for a revision in fares, which he said had not been increased since 2012.

Addressing the media at Bus Bhavan, Mr. Prabhakar touched on the measures and achievements of the Transport Department and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).

A welfare board for autorickshaw workers would be set up soon, the minister said, adding that the government would provide assistance of ₹ 1.5 million for retrofitting of petrol and diesel autorickshaws in Hyderabad.

Talking about the TGSRTC, he highlighted that 347.36 crore women have so far traveled for free in buses under the Mahalakshmi scheme, resulting in an estimated saving of ₹12,167 crore for them.

He said the state-owned road transport company had acquired 2,932 new buses, including 1,024 electric buses already on the roads. Another 2,200 electric buses would be introduced in GHZ. The company also operated services on 370 new routes in the city and extended connectivity to areas without bus service.

He added that the occupancy of TGSRTC has increased from 67% to 89%. Recruitment notifications for 4,538 posts have been issued, while recruitment for 1,000 driver and 743 laborer posts has been completed. The government also approved the recruitment of 1,500 conductors.

He said that union elections will be held after which the process related to amalgamation of RTC employees will be completed. The government has provided two PRCs and five DAs to RTC workers without DA arrears, he added.

He said proposals to bring cycle taxis into the regulatory framework through yellow number plates were also being explored.
