Phase 1 of the 2027 census has been completed and efforts are on to train officials to prepare the district census manual, Tamil Nadu Director of Census Operations M. Sundaresh Babu said on Tuesday.
About 1.5 million officials participated in Phase 1, which ended last month, including about 1.15 million enumerators. “We have completed Houselisting operations. We have started training officials to prepare district census manual. For this manual they will collect details like roads, hospitals, educational institutions in revenue villages and towns,” said Mr. Sundaresh Babu.
Officials would collect comprehensive data in each of the revenue villages and towns that would provide a holistic picture of each of these units. Once senior officials complete their training, officials will be trained at the taluk level to collect data from various departments.
During September and October, the field officers undergo training for the collection and preparation of the district census. Once they complete their training, they will collect data between October 16 and November 15. Phase 2 of Census 2027 is scheduled in Tamil Nadu in February next year.
