Barcelona have completed the deadline day signing of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal

Barcelona have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, with the 29-year-old signing a three-year contract, the two clubs confirmed on Tuesday. The transfer fee has not been officially disclosed by either side, although reports in the British media suggest that Barcelona paid around £8.6 million (US$11.5 million) to bring the forward to Spain.

“Arsenal and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement on the transfer of Gabriel Jesus to the Blaugranes. The Brazilian striker will sign as a winger for three seasons,” reads a statement from Barcelona.

Jesus becomes Barcelona’s sixth addition in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants also brought in Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri, Joao Cancelo and goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic. The move comes as Barcelona continue to be linked with Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez. However, Atlético are unwilling to allow the Argentina international to join any of their domestic rivals.

For Jesus, the move marks the end of a four-year spell at Arsenal. He joined the Emirates from Manchester City in 2022 and went on to make 123 appearances, finding the net on 32 occasions. He also made 27 appearances during Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning season last year.

However, his role in the Arsenal line-up diminished as Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres moved ahead of him in the competition for places in attack. Jesus enjoyed a very successful spell at Manchester City before joining Arsenal. In six seasons at the Etihad, he collected four Premier League titles and scored 95 goals in 236 games in all competitions.

In total, the Brazilian has over 200 Premier League appearances and has scored over 70 goals in the competition. Arsenal have also confirmed the departure of midfielder Fabio Vieira, who has completed a move to Hamburg in Germany.
