Chhattisgarh Government launches portal for benefit of tribal tin collectors

The Chhattisgarh government on Monday (31 Aug 2026) launched a new portal — Tribal Incentives on Natural Resources or TIN — to ensure that tribal communities in Bastar get a fair and transparent price for the tin ore they collect, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said.
According to an official of Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Limited (CMDC), all the tin ore in India is in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh and is either mined directly by CMDC or collected from the tribals of the religion through cooperatives.
As part of the new initiative, the digital platform will unify the entire tin procurement process – from registration and quality testing to pricing and payment – under one transparent system.
“A key feature of the portal is that the price of tin will be linked to the London Metal Exchange (LME), allowing payments to better reflect prevailing prices in the international market. Once the tin is sold, the payment will be transferred directly to the recipient’s bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This will reduce reliance on middlemen, minimize delays and ensure that a greater proportion of the value goes directly to the official families.”
On how this will be achieved, the official said the system has been designed in simple, transparent steps. Recipients will be digitally registered, sheet metal quality will be tested and the entire transaction will be recorded online. QR-based authentication, banking integration and SMS alerts will allow collectors to track the quantity purchased, price set and payment status. CMDC will also be able to track procurement, inventory and payments in real time.
The official added that currently CMDC was procuring tin through six centers in Bastar division. “Three more collection and purchase centers are proposed at Bastar, Dantewada and Sukma, facilitating collectors in remote areas to sell their produce locally. In 2024-25, CMDC purchased 8,707.2 kg of tin ore and paid approximately ₹ 90.82 lakh to tribal beneficiaries. 85.82,305 kg increased by 2025 to 2025 with payments of around ₹ 3.81 crore,” the official said.
Mr. Sai said that the TIN portal is not just a digital shopping platform but a ‘Mineral-to-Livelihood’ initiative to ensure that the economic value generated from Bastar’s natural resources directly contributes to the income and livelihood of tribal families.
