Transfer deadline day: Top moves to watch out for

The European summer transfer window is entering its final phase, with clubs across the continent racing against time to complete their remaining deals before the end of August. The extended window that opened in June during the FIFA World Cup has already made several headlines. Ferran Torres transferred to Paris Saint-Germain, Rodri transferred to BarcelonaMorgan Rogers moved to Chelsea and Yan Diomande signed for Real Madrid, among a host of other big deals.

However, the transfer activity is far from over. Several clubs are still trying to sort out gaps in their squads and set the stage for a potentially frantic deadline day before the window closes. Once the summer deadline passes, European clubs will have to wait until the January 2027 transfer window to make further signings. However, free agents will remain available outside of the two transfer windows.

TRANSFER DATE DAY: THERE’S A MOVE TO WATCH OUT FOR

Manchester City could be at the center of some of the biggest remaining deals, with the Premier League champions reportedly considering moves for players from two of the ‘Big 6’ clubs.

Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo has emerged as a potential target, but City now appear to be focusing on Everton’s Illiman Ndiaye. Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has also been linked with a move to the Etihad. The addition of either player would further strengthen City’s squad as they look to stay in contention for the Premier League title.

Crystal Palace striker Ismaila Sarr and Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh are among the names mooted as possible options.

Arsenal, meanwhile, could also get involved in late window activity. The defending Premier League champions are preparing to part ways with Brazilian strikers Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, potentially leaving them in the final third.

One of the biggest questions is whether Arsenal could make a move for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez. The Argentine has reportedly been linked with Barcelona and it remains unclear whether he would be willing to consider a move elsewhere.

Aston Villa is another club that should remain active. Champions League participants saw several important players leave during the window and need to add to their squad before the deadline.

Manchester United could be in the hunt for a new left-back, with reports suggesting they could look at a loan move to provide some cover for Luke Shaw. They could also see Joshua Zirkzee move to Juventus on loan.

Speaking of the Turin side, they are also in talks with Newcastle United over the possibility of bringing Nick Woltemade to Italy. With several new deals expected throughout the day, expect a busy day of transfers.

Mykhailo Mudryk is back in football after the end of his ban and now he is on the move. Reports suggested that a loan move from Chelsea to Spurs was in the works for the Ukrainian striker. Sunderland appear to have hijacked Arsenal’s move for Malick Fofan from Lyon.
