Misbah-ul-Haq finished as Pakistan selector after sending 7 players home without his word

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has reportedly resigned from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection committee after being excluded from the decision to recall seven Test players from England following the Lord’s debacle. According to The Express Tribune, Misbah submitted his resignation to the PCB. A source familiar with the matter confirmed the development and said, “Yes, he has sent his resignation to the PCB.”

Misbah will reportedly serve his notice period before formally stepping down. His resignation comes after the PCB made a series of changes to Pakistan’s Test squad following their defeat at Lord’s. The board released seven players from the squad for the third and final Test against England and brought in substitutes for the match at Edgbaston.

Misbah was reportedly unhappy with the way the changes were made and in particular that he was left out of the discussions surrounding the decision. The former Pakistan captain was part of the selection committee but was not involved in the process that led to seven players being sent home.

The PCB also made changes in Pakistan’s coaching staff ahead of the final Test. Sarfaraz Ahmed was removed as the head red ball coach while Umar Gul was relieved of his role as fast bowling coach.

White-ball head coach Mike Hesson and bowling coach Ashley Noffke were asked to oversee the squad for the Edgbaston Test to be played from September 9-13.

Misbah joined the PCB selection panel in March 2026 as part of a panel overhaul. His appointment came after Aleem Dar stepped down after the T20 World Cup. Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was also added to the selection committee at that time.

Sarfaraz took over as Pakistan’s red-ball head coach on 18 April, shortly before the team’s two-Test tour of Bangladesh. Pakistan lost that series 2–0 before drawing 1–1 with the West Indies in the two-Test series.

Pakistan’s Test campaign in England has also put the team under pressure. They are 2-0 down in the three-match series after defeats in the first two Tests, with the final game at Edgbaston now their last chance to avoid the series.

Misbah previously served Pakistan as captain in all three formats and later served as the head coach of the national team. He joined the selection committee earlier this year and was involved in the team’s selection process before his announced resignation.
