Delhi Metro employee breaks Guinness record, crosses all stations in 14 hours, 54 minutes | Today’s news

Delhi Metro employee Prafull Singh is the fastest person to travel across all metro stations in the city’s network and now holds a Guinness World Record for doing so.

Singh completed the massive transit challenge in 14 hours, 54 minutes and 36 seconds on May 23, starting his journey at 6 am from Raja Nahar Singh station on the Purple Line and ending at Millennium City Center station in Gurugram at around 9 pm.

The previous record was held by Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Shipra Gupta who completed the transit in June 2023 in 15 hours, 21 minutes and 4 seconds.

“Definitely breaking the Guinness Book of Records”

According to The Print, this was not Prafull Singh’s first time chasing the record — he previously held the title in 2022, covering 254 stations in 16 hours, 2 minutes and 17 seconds.

This time, however, he had a better plan and a clearer idea of how to cover the net. As an operational employee of DMRC, he was able to use his professional knowledge of timetables, routes and daily operational rules to effectively complete this challenge.

“I was confident that this time I would break the Guinness World Record by a significant margin,” Singh told The Print. “Last time I was an hour and a half late because I took the wrong route. But this time I was sure.”

“An opportunity to showcase the reach and efficiency of the Delhi Metro”

However, the record is not just about staying on the train and traveling on the network.

According to Guinness rules, the train must physically stop at each station in order to be counted. While performing is not required, challengers must capture time-stamped photographic evidence at each location.

Commenting on the milestone, Singh said the record allowed him to showcase the massive scale of the Delhi Metro and highlight the value of public transport.

“This achievement is much more than a personal best for me,” he said. “Being closely associated with DMRC, it was an opportunity for me to showcase the reach and efficiency of the Delhi Metro and encourage greater use of public transport.”

Who is Prafull Singh, apart from a DMRC employee?

Apart from his work at DMRC, Prafull Singh is an Ironman triathlete who actively competes in swimming, marathon and cycling, according to The Print.

In 2021, he secured a place in the Indian Book of Records by cycling 3000 km in 134 hours at his home. For his next endurance feat, Singh plans to swim from India to Sri Lanka to raise awareness and support cancer research.
