Maharashtra draft electoral roll for all 288 assembly constituencies out; check your name on the electoral roll

At least 2.08 lakh voters, or 21.14% of Maharashtra’s electorate before the special intensive revision, were not included in the draft voter list released on Monday (August 31) after the SIR exercise in all 288 constituencies in the state.

Of the 9.78 million voters on the lists before the revision, about 7.71 million, or 78.86%, were included in the draft list. These include approximately 3.95 million male voters, 3.75 million female voters and 3087 third gender voters.

According to election authorities, the 2.08 million voters excluded from the draft include those whose census forms were not received because they could not find them at their registered addresses, moved from those addresses, died, had duplicate registrations or for other reasons, including refusal to turn in census forms. The Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra has also released the lists of voters who were on the earlier electoral rolls but are not part of the draft SIR 2026.

Voters can check if their names have been listed through Election Commission of India Electoral Services Portal. The portal also provides background related to the ongoing SIR exercise and voter registration.

Eligible voters whose names are missing from the draft, as well as new voters who turn 18 on or before October 1, 2026, can submit Form 6 along with the prescribed statement during the claims and objections period from August 31 to September 30. After verification of the application, the voter registration officer (ERÚ) will decide and they can be included in the final list of eligible voters.

A voter from the affected constituency can object to entry through Form 7, while voters seeking corrections to details such as their name, address, age or gender can apply through Form 8. ECI’s Electoral Services Portal lists Form 6 for new voter registration and Form 7 for deletion-related requests.

Processing of complaints, objections and notices will continue until October 29, after which the final voter list is scheduled to be published on November 4.

If an application for inclusion or amendment is rejected due to the absence of the prescribed documents, the voter can make a fresh application with the required documents or appeal under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

The ECI also warned that for making a false statement or statement while applying for inclusion, correction or deletion of a name in the electoral roll, the person concerned is liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend to 1 year, fine or both under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

As part of the SIR exercise, 394 new polling stations were created in addition to the existing 1,00,253 polling stations. Due to attrition of voters, 431 polling stations have been reduced so that the total number of polling stations is now 1,00,216.

The location of 1,403 polling booths has been repositioned, including shifting of polling booths that were set up in temporary structures in Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane and Palghar districts to permanent premises/buildings within the same polling booth area, as per ECI’s guidelines for relocation of polling booths to permanent locations.
