A higher salary may make a job offer in Bengaluru more attractive, but does it necessarily mean more savings? A technology professional identified as Sumit sparked an online debate after he pointed out the expenses that professionals may face when moving to India’s IT hub.
In an Instagram video, Sumit urged people living in Delhi, Noida or elsewhere in India to consider their overall expenses before accepting a job in Bengaluru just on the basis of a higher package.
Bigger salary, bigger expenses?
“If you think the salary in Bengaluru is very good, then listen to me. If you live in Delhi, Noida or any other part of India and you are thinking of moving from this region to Bengaluru for a good amount of salary, the salary is good there, but the cost of living is very high. The rent is very high, the travel cost is very high. You may have to fly very often, so you will have to return to your family by plane often. These days you may have to spend 20 000, including rent, food and travel expenses alone, it will cost you around Rs 10 lakh per year, even if you get Rs 10 lakh more in the package in Bengaluru and live in Delhi, because you won’t be able to save that much per year on your own.”
The ₹Sumit’s estimate based on the costs he outlined in his video is 10 million in annual costs.
