
The TELANGANA fire, the reaction to disasters, emergency and civil defense meant the beginning of the Firefighting Service Week by a monument to the state fire and civil defense training institute at Vattinagulapally, Gachibowli. The aim of the week, which was observed annually from the 14th to 20th April in India, is to raise public awareness to prevent fire.
This year’s topic is: “To unite icnite, fire safe India”, which emphasizes the importance of involvement of community, education and readiness along with innovations in fire safety.
The fire service also honors 66 firefighters who lost their lives in the 1944 explosion aboard Royal Navy Ship SS Fort Stikine in Victoria Dock 14.
The CEO of Y. Nagi Reddy led the show and paid tribute to the fallen firefighters along with other higher officials. Posters, stickers and brochures for fire safety were released to support public awareness.
Throughout the week, a number of events across Telangana are planned, including fire exercises in hospitals, industries, shops, residential colonies and LPG storage units. Fire safety workshops, blood donation camps and community involvement will also be held.
The Ministry urged citizens to take preventive measures in an emergency and call for 101. The week will be closed on April 20, with the closure of the ceremony and prizes will be distributed for essay and drawing competitions.
