Bengaluru traffic police booked 566 motorists for drunken driving during a special week-long enforcement drive conducted across the city and impounded the vehicles involved.
The special drive was conducted from August 24 to the night of August 30 across the boundaries of all 53 traffic police stations in Bengaluru. During the event, police officers checked 36,654 vehicles to identify motorists violating traffic and road safety rules.
During the checks, 566 drivers were found to be driving after consuming alcohol. Cases were registered against all the offenders and their vehicles were seized.
In a separate drive against speeding, the traffic police registered 244 cases and collected ₹2.48 crore in fines.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy said special enforcement drives against drink driving, speeding and other traffic offenses will continue to ensure road safety and deter motorists from endangering other road users.
