On Saturday on Saturday, a private aircraft carried six people in the muddy agricultural field in New York and killed everyone on board, the authorities confirmed. The plane, the twins Mitsubishi Mu-2B, headed to the Columbia County airport when it went around 12:15 in the city of KOPAKE, about 10 miles south of Hudson.

Among the victims was Karenna Groff, 23 years old, a famous former football player from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who was appointed by the woman of 2022 NCAA of the year. Groff attended a medical school at New York University (NYU).
Her parents were also killed. Michael Groff, respected neurosurgeon, and Dr. Joy Saini, practicing urogynecologist. Her brother Jared Groff, Paralegal and his partner Alexia Couyutas Duarte, who was recently admitted to Harvard Law School, were also on flight. The sixth victim was Karenn’s partner James Santoro, a graduate of MIT.
According to NTSB National Council (NTSB), the aircraft took off from Westchester County Airport earlier in the morning. As the aircraft approached the goal, the pilot broadcast that he missed his initial approach and tried another. A moment later, air controls sent three low height warnings, all of which were unanswered.
Video shots acquired by the investigators showed that the aircraft was fully intact before it fell to the ground at a high speed of descent. NTSB officials described the debris as “compressed, rising and built into the field”.
Authorities are investigating the weather, equipment and pilot reaction
The aircraft worked according to the rules of the device, which is usually used in poor visibility conditions. The official TODD Inman NTSB noted that the cockpit was recently upgraded using newer FAA certification systems.
Although the weather has not yet been confirmed as a factor, investigators examine all potential causes, including mechanical failure and pilot errors. The aircraft was registered with Dr. Michael Groff, who was allegedly flew at the time, although the authorities have not yet confirmed it.
Honors pour for a young woman and family too early
NYU issued a statement to the sadness of Karenna Groffová, who praised her for her academic perfection and compassionate spirit.
“Karenna has shown an exceptional skill and unwavering passion for patient care. We will remember her warmth, grace and joy that our community has brought,” the university said.
John Santoro, Father James Santor, expressed his heart break over the loss and said the Associated Press: “It was an amazing family. The world lost six incredible people who wanted to do great things. We are all destroyed.”
NTSB says that complete investigation will take 12 to 24 months. Preliminary findings are expected to be published in the coming weeks.
This accident comes only a few days after a separate air tragedy involving a helicopter in the Hudson River killed six, including a family of Spanish tourists and raised renewed concerns about private aircraft security.
