Kandela Khap condemns restrictions on inspection of Haryana government schools

Sarv Jatiya Kandela Khap has condemned the Haryana government’s decision to limit public and media inspections of government schools, saying the move was aimed at hiding flaws in the education system.

President Khap Om Prakash Kandela, spokesperson Jagat Singh Redhu and general secretary Raj Singh Kandela said in a joint statement that government schools in villages were often built on land donated by villagers and with the support of local communities. Therefore, the villagers had a legitimate stake in their functioning, they said.

The statement came after Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda said unauthorized entry into government schools would not be allowed. His remarks followed visits by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activists to several government schools as part of their ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign. Activists alleged deficiencies in infrastructure, cleanliness, availability of teachers and quality of midday meals.

Khapu leaders argued that the reduction in school inspections reflected the government’s attempt to cover up its failings rather than address them. They urged the government to focus on improving law and order, creating job opportunities for young people and tackling drug abuse.

Mr. Raj Singh Kandela said that government schools were public institutions and could not be considered as private spaces where questions regarding the privacy of individuals had arisen. He argued that citizens should be allowed to control their functioning so that deficiencies can be identified and eliminated.

Khap called on the government to lift the restrictions and warned that failure to do so could have serious consequences in the future.
