Children, families adopt animals under Vizag zoo program

Several animals at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam were adopted by children and their families on the occasion of their birthdays under the Zoo’s Animal Adoption Programme, the park said on Sunday (August 30, 2026).

A total of ₹ 1,46,100 was donated to adopt 10 animals, including Himalayan goral, parrot, leopard, striped hyena, Himalayan black bear, Bengal tiger and spotted deer, curator G. Mangamma said. The amount will go towards animal care, welfare and protection, she said.

The adopters were Reddy Vihaan Vardhan, Siyan Tanvi, Hema Aishwarya Gollu, Vijaya Kannanabu Gollu, Haritha Gollu, Sattaru Kanishkaa and Sattaru Papinaida and Sattaru Arudhra. In recognition of their contribution, they were presented with animal adoption certificates and gift sets.
