The future city will get a world-class cricket stadium; The foundation stone is likely to be laid in December

Telangana is set to get a new world-class cricket stadium at Future City, with the state government exploring a suitable 100-acre site for the ambitious project. According to sources, the foundation stone is likely to be laid in December.

The proposed stadium is planned as a multi-purpose sports and events stadium with facilities modeled after iconic venues such as Lord’s in England and leading stadiums in Australia.

The initiative follows the directives of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who laid emphasis on the development of world-class sports infrastructure in the city of the future. Officials are currently exploring suitable sites in Bharat Future City for the proposed stadium.

With a planned seating capacity of over one lakh, the proposed facility in Hyderabad is expected to become one of the largest cricket stadiums in the country. Its construction cost is also likely to exceed that of the Ahmedabad Stadium.

BCCI is expected to bear the construction and maintenance expenses while the state government will provide the required land. Officials are working on a project framework to be jointly developed and managed by the state government and the BCCI.

The proposed facility is not intended to be limited to cricket. In accordance with the vision of the Prime Minister, it is designed in such a way that, in addition to large concerts and entertainment events, it also enables other sports events, including football. The stadium would have the flexibility to redevelop for various sporting and cultural events.

Officials are also exploring the possibility of providing infrastructure capable of hosting major events on a scale larger than the existing convention facilities in Hyderabad. This could allow the site to become a major destination for international sporting events, concerts, exhibitions and other large gatherings.

The proposed stadium assumes significance as the existing Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal has limitations in terms of hosting major international matches associated with global tournaments.

Its location in Future City is expected to provide strong connectivity. Proximity to the Outer Ring Road, the proposed Regional Ring Road, the planned extension of the Metro to Future City and the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad would facilitate the movement of spectators and visitors.

The proposed project is part of the state government’s broader focus on developing sports infrastructure and supporting physical education. The Young India Physical Education and Sports University is already partnering with international universities and institutions, with the government striving to create an ecosystem capable of nurturing sports talent and hosting major international events.
