Defending the recently approved WAQF Act (amendment) by Parliament, National spokesperson of BJP and member of Rajya Sabha Sudhansh TRIVEDI said on Sunday that no state could refuse to carry out the central law in the constitutional system of India.
“The bill has been adopted according to all the procedures and fulfillment of all constitutional beliefs and is focused on the authorization of poor Muslims and at the same time questioning decades of reassurance policy. No state can refuse to carry out the Central Act and if this happens, it is a threat to the Institute.”
Mr. Trivedi, who devoted himself to the opposition, claimed that the Indian Constitution would win over any religious decrees.
“This bill introduces significant changes in the 1995 WAQF law. The aim of the changes is to increase the management and regulation of the WAQF properties, ensure greater responsibility and inclusion. This is a step to strengthen the position of the Muslim community and promote inclusion,” he added.
MP BJP used a sharp rhetoric to ridicule the accusation of the opposition about the possible abuse of WAQF properties. In Hindi, he quoted a sarcastic proverb, suggesting that existing practices were more exploitative than the proposed reforms.
It tied the bill to a greater narrative of national integration and unity, suggesting that the streamlining and regulation of religious institutions was part of building a modern, progressive India, where all citizens were equal by law.
He also asked why WAQF exists in India when Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Iraq and Syria did not have it. “Various Supreme Courts have decided that waqf is not a religious matter. WAQF Board is an abstract body for land management.”
They also spoke Bengaluru South MP and JPC member on WAQF (amendment), Tejasvi Surya and opposition leader in the State Assembly of R. Ashok.
