Democracy Restored, Prosperity Provided in 1000 Days: Uttam

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday said that the Congress government completing 1,000 days in Telangana was an important milestone and claimed that the period saw the restoration of democratic governance along with the implementation of welfare and development programmes.

In a statement, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the change in the government was not merely political but restored the democratic spirit for which the people of Telangana had fought.

He argued that under the previous BRS regime, power was concentrated in the hands of the individual and the family, and argued that the voices of ministers, legislators, public representatives, opposition parties and ordinary citizens were not given importance.

Through Prajavani, gram sabhas and direct consultations, the government has brought the administration closer to the people, said Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

He said the government is distributing free rice to about 3.42 million beneficiaries at the rate of 6 kg per person. New ration cards have been issued to lakhs of eligible families and distribution of smart ration cards has also started, he said.

Reacting to the BRS protests against the Congress government, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the opposition has the freedom to agitate and that itself reflects the restoration of democracy in Telangana.

“Telangana has definitely moved from family rule to people rule,” he said, adding that the government would continue its journey with greater determination.
