Kudumbashree records ₹2.78 crore Onam gross in Keralam’s Kollam
Kudumbashree reported strong revenue growth during the Onam season and recorded a total turnover of ₹ 2.78 crore through its ‘Onam with Kudumbashree’ initiative in Kollam district. Revenue was generated through 146 Onam fairs organized across various Community Development Societies (CDS) and at the district level. This represents an increase in revenue of ₹ 8.49 crore compared to the previous year. A total of 4,598 Kudumbashree business units and 2,953 Joint Liability Group (JLG) agricultural units actively participated in the Onam markets.
The fairs offered a wide variety of goods, including traditional snacks, food products, pickles, curries, flour, millet, bakery goods, handlooms, clothing, coconut oil, honey, soaps and toiletries. Fresh local vegetables grown by JLG farmers and various flowers grown especially for Onam saw high demand from shoppers who wanted to prepare traditional Onam feasts and pookalams.
As part of the festive commercial operations, Kudumbashree units distributed 8,214 Onam kits across CDS tiers, generating revenue of ₹ 42.43 crore with the involvement of 476 entrepreneurs. Priced between ₹ 500 and ₹ 750, the Onam sets contained festive essentials such as banana chips, sarkkaravaratti, chilli powder, coriander powder, sambar masala, turmeric powder, coconut oil, payasam mix and pickles. Alayamon CDS emerged as the best in the district by preparing and distributing 750 kits. Additionally, the Home Shop network played a vital role in delivering products directly to households and contributed ₹ 16.78 lakh to the total sales. Kudumbashree Cafe units have also seen high demand for Onam sada services. A total of 42 cafes prepared and supplied 5,740 Onam meals, generating sales of ₹ 11.13 lakh and further contributing to the overall success of the festive business in the district.
