Two killed, SI injured in Suryapet over tree dispute

Two people were killed in a double murder at Erragattu Thanda in Mellacheruvu mandal of Suryapet district on Saturday, with police attributing the incident to a long-standing feud and personal enmity between neighbours.

Suryapet area SP Narasimha along with DSP Srinivas Reddy and other police personnel inspected the crime scene and spoke to the family members of the victims. He said the police will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that strong evidence is brought before the court for swift and severe punishment of those responsible.

According to SP Bhukya Pedababu, Bhukya Ramu and their mother, who were neighbors of the victims, allegedly assaulted Amaraboyin Venkateswarla and his father. Both victims suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. The incident reportedly followed a dispute over a tree.

A case was registered against Pedabab, Ram and their mother on the basis of eyewitness statements and preliminary evidence. Ramakrishnareddy, CI-in-charge of Kodad Rural, was appointed as the investigating officer.

The SP said that Pedababu used to work as a physics teacher but was suspended due to alleged behavioral problems and violation of rules. There have also been complaints in the past accusing him of frequently raising disputes and submitting petitions that created unrest in the village, he said.

The bodies were examined at the Huzurnagar Government Hospital. Police urged residents to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands.
