Prasidh Krishna won the Impact Player award after India’s 1-0 series win against Sri Lanka
Prasidh Krishna made the most of the opportunity that came his way in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence and played a key role in India’s 1-0 Test series win over Sri Lanka. His efforts with the ball were rewarded as he was named the Impact Player of the Series after taking seven wickets in two Tests.
Krishna finished the series with an average of 24.57 and best figures of 3/52. He provided India with a steady pace option throughout the tour and delivered consistently in conditions that tested the bowlers.
The award was presented to Krishna by Indian analyst Hari Prasad Mohan, who praised the fast bowler for his preparation, discipline and ability to constantly test Sri Lanka’s batting.
“So the Impact Player of the Series goes to someone who gave hard yards, let the ball do the talking, kept asking the batsmen the right question, even in these adverse conditions. Hit the ball whenever he got the chance,” Hari Prasad said in a video released by the BCCI.
Hari Prasad also revealed that Krishna was very interested in dates during the tour and would regularly seek information to help him prepare for the opposition.
“Since we landed in Colombo, he’s been hearing from me constantly and asking for a lot of data, and frankly, if there’s anyone who can have a second job as an analyst, it would be him,” he said.
The performance analyst said that Krishna’s hunger to continuously improve during the series stood out.
“For his relentlessness, wickets, impact and too many questions I enjoy, it is Prasidh Krishna,” Hari Prasad added.
After receiving the award, Krishna quickly shifted the focus away from himself. He thanked the reserves and support staff for the work they did during the tour, even though they didn’t get the chance to play.
“Thank you guys so much. Nothing would have been possible without each and every one of you. I think everyone, those who are playing, of course they deserve credit for giving you, but everyone around. I think it takes a lot for everyone during a Test match, we were here in the camp,” Krishna said.
The tour also demanded a lot from the team outside of matches. The long training sessions and intense heat in Galle and Colombo made the support of reserves and personnel even more important.
“Every session we did such long practices to see how you all locked in. Thank you all so much, even during such hot days, everyone sat there, stood out there and helped with the water,” said Krishna.
He also recognized the reserves who started training and helped the player group with preparation.
“All the reserves that are out there are going to come, run, help us all. So this effort will take us all a long way. So this is the way the team needs to be run and thank you very much,” he added.
The award capped off a valuable run for Krishna, who stepped in in the absence of one of India’s leading fast bowlers. His seven wickets and consistent performances provided India with a reliable pace option and helped the visitors complete the series win in Sri Lanka.
