The probe was launched after the group stopped Kerala CM Satheesan’s convoy in Thiruvananthapuram

Police have launched an investigation after a group stopped Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan’s convoy here on Friday while he was on his way to a function in Chempazhanthy, officials said. According to the police, the incident took place in the evening when Satheesan, after visiting a house in Ulloor, was traveling to Chempazhantha to attend the birth anniversary function of social reformer Sree Narayan Guru.

On the way, a group of people organizing another Sree Narayana Guru event in Chenthi signaled the CM’s vehicle to stop, police said. Satheesan got out of the vehicle on their request and was seen on television screens arguing with local Congress leader Anil Kumar alias Chenthi Ani.

After spending several minutes at the scene, Satheesan returned to his vehicle and left, police said. Police said no incident at Chenthi was mentioned in the CM’s schedule and that the reason for stopping his convoy would be investigated.

Chenthi Ani told reporters that they had organized a Sree Narayana Guru event at the cultural center and invited the CM to attend it. “However, it was only on Friday that we came to know that our event was not included in the CM’s schedule. So when he was passing through the area, we signaled his vehicle to stop. After getting out of the vehicle, he said something to us angrily and left,” said Ani.

He said a large crowd had gathered who were expecting Satheesan to attend the event but were disappointed. The CMO has yet to respond to this matter.
