President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Mahesh Joshi ignored the basic principles of democracy in his administration, and some of the writers and activists of Shivamoggy urged the state government to appoint an administrator to Parishat.
At a press conference in Shivamogg on Saturday, a lawyer and social activist KP Sripal said Mr. Malesh Joshi, because he took the lead as President Parishat, acted as a dictator.
Mr. Joshi issued a notice to D. Manjunath, a democratically elected President of the Shivamogg district on Parishat, just because (Manjunath) raised questions about the executive meeting.
“Mr. Joshi decides against the law. If this trend continues, Parishat will lose his character. The state government should appoint an administrator to Parishat and organize an investigation against Josh.
Honna Chandrashekhar, a journalist and a life member of Parishat, said Mr. Joshi had changed the law to nominate members for the Parishat Executive Committee with voting powers. He could make any decision with this and obtain it by a ratified Executive Committee, because the nominated members would support him.
He also planned for several other amendments on the upcoming general body, which were planned in Nandihalli in the Ballari District in the 27th April. Most of the changes were intended to increase its powers, said Mr. Chandrashekhar.
“The planned meeting was to be organized in a place where a large number of members can participate. However, the meeting was organized in Nandihall University, where only a few hundred people could accommodate. The meeting was organized so that it could handle it,” he said.
Mr. Chandrashekhar also suggested that the members of Parishat’s life participate in the general body and oppose the changes in the law.
Writer B. Chandre Gowd, poet and publisher Akhatha Hunchandakatte and others were present.
