With an increase of 3.89 per kg, CNG in Delhi will now cost 86.98 per kg, more than 83.09 per kg. CNG is mostly used in private cars, autos, taxis and other public transport.

“As international LNG prices remain elevated and the impact on costs increasingly significant, a calibrated review 3.89 per kg has now become necessary to partly offset the increased cost of input gas,” IGL said, adding that the CNG price revision is being carried out from 6 am on Saturday.

Why the price increase?

The adjustment comes as global spot LNG prices have almost doubled due to escalating conflicts in West Asia, disrupting the movement of LNG cargoes through the Strait of Hormuz, along with rising European demand ahead of the winter season.

According to an IGL press release, CNG consumers are largely insulated from the impact of a fluctuating increase in imported LNG spot prices amid the crisis in West Asia. He notes that among gas-importing countries like India, Delhi has one of the lowest retail CNG prices in the world.

“Since July 2026, due to the re-escalation of the West Asian crisis affecting the movement of LNG cargoes through the Strait of Hormuz, global LNG prices have almost doubled compared to the pre-crisis period. In addition, there is an urgent need to increase natural gas reserves in Europe due to the approaching winter season,” IGL said.

The company added that in these challenging times, “CNG consumption is also seeing a significant jump in line with the rapidly growing Indian economy and growing consumer demand.”

“To meet this growing demand for CNG, a significant portion of the input gas for the CNG segment is covered through imported spot LNG. The above factors have led to a significant increase in the input gas cost for the CNG segment,” IGL said.

Rapid economic growth and rising consumer demand have increased reliance on imported spot LNG to make up for the CNG supply gap.

IGL has reaffirmed its commitment to optimize resource costs so that CNG remains an economical, clean and reliable fuel choice for auto-rickshaws, taxis, private vehicles and public transport fleets.
