A bio-fertilizer manufacturing laboratory estimated to cost ₹ 3.02 crore will be set up at Yendada in Visakhapatnam district under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.

Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao laid the foundation stone for the facility on Friday.

Mr. Srinivasa said the state government was prioritizing agriculture and supporting farmers through shopping centers, market interventions and storage facilities. He said excessive use of chemical fertilizers could affect soil health and stressed the need to promote biofertilizers.

He said Yendada in Bheemili Assembly constituency is one of the three places where new bio-fertilizer laboratories are coming up in the state. He asked the officials to complete the facility in about nine months.

District Agriculture Officer Appalaswamy said the laboratory will produce biofertilizers like Azotobacter, Azospirillum and Rhizobium. He said this will improve nutrient availability in the soil, promote root development and help maintain soil health.

Mr. Appalaswamy said the use of biofertilizers will reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, reduce the cost of cultivation and promote eco-friendly and sustainable agriculture. The facility would also be used to train farmers and field staff and conduct field demonstrations.
