On Friday (April 11, 2025), a system of united health coverage combining Ayushman Bharat and “Gopabandh Jan Arogya Yojana”, Odish’s own health coverage program, was launched in the state.
Odisha was one of several states that did not perform ayushman Bharat scheme, because the previous government Naveen Patnaik consistently stated that “Gopabandh Jan Arogya Yojana” (formerly Swastya Kalyan Yojna) was better than the central system.
However, the Bharatiya Janata party changed the non -implementation of Ayushman Bharat to the key campaign problem during 2024 elections. Now the merged schemes have been implemented for 1.03 Crore families (3,46 crore population) of the state.
This health card will be accepted by 29,000 hospitals in Odisha and outdoors. Main Minister Mohan Charan Maran said that these cards will be made available to each family in the next three months.
“In 2018, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out a system of health coverage, the BJD government did not carry out Jan Arrogya Yojan for seven years. People broke the ego of the BJD government and created a lotus flower,” said JP Nadda, Minister of Health of the Union and President BJP.
“It is a historical moment when” Pradhan Mantri Jan Aogya Yojana “and” Gopabandh Jan Arrogya Yojana “are now carried out in coordination with the governments of the double engine in Odisha.
“Pradhan Mantri Jan Aogya Yojana was not implemented in Odisha, Delhi and West Bengal. The inhabitants of Odisha and Delhi have already rejected the arrogant government and reported the change.
Majhi said that in the last 10 months, 4,000 doctors and healthcare workers have been appointed and another 5,374 doctors will be appointed in the coming days.
“More than 23 older citizens in the state will now receive medical treatments for free. Unlike earlier schemes, where the benefits were limited to one member, this card is issued to each family member. When looking forward, the state government also plans to establish a new medical faculty in the districts of Bhadrak, Jagatssinghpur, Zarangpur.
